3 simple ways to use coconut oil everyday

Posted by ANCP

You've probably noticed that coconut oil has gained a lot of popularity lately. It's no surprise; for thousands of years, people have used coconut oil as a source of nutrition. This impressive superfood is not only a delicious and healthy way to add flavour to your favourite recipes, it's also extremely versatile. Here are some ways you can make coconut oil a part of your daily routine.

  • Cook With It If you're not already cooking with coconut oil, you should be. Unfortunately, because coconut oil is high in saturated fats, it received some backlash a few decades ago. Since then however, science has started to question the supposed link between saturated fat and heart disease. Coconut oil is made up of medium chain fatty acids which are quickly utilised by your body as a powerful source of energy. You can use it in your favourite recipes in place of olive or vegetable oil. Coconut oil adds a delicious flavour and richness to vegetables. You can sauté meat or fish in it as well. It's mild enough that it won't overpower your dishes, but your guests will be impressed by how uniquely savoury everything tastes.
  • Add It to Your Skincare Regimen Coconut oil will quickly become your new favourite all-natural moisturiser. It hydrates and nourishes your skin, and because it doesn't contain any water or preservatives, it conditions at a deeper level than most commercial skincare products. It also acts as a cleanser, removing dead skin cells and dirt. If your skin is acne-prone, you'll find that coconut oil may help keep your acne at bay. Use it on mild rashes, wrinkles, scars, and insect bites. Oh, and it just so happens to smell great too!
  • Use It in Your Hair Just like it moisturises your skin, coconut oil is a great hair conditioner as well. Instead of buying an expensive hair mask at the store, use coconut oil instead. Simply apply a small amount to your scalp and hair, allow it to sit for a few minutes, and rinse. You'll be amazed at how soft and shiny your hair looks. Because coconut oil is rich in fatty acids, it not only conditions your hair, it strengthens each strand, repairing and preventing damage and breakage.
