How often should I exercise?

Challenging yourself through exercise can help you live a long and healthy life.

How often you should exercise depends on your age and the type of lifestyle that you want to maintain. According to the experts, beginners should exercise at least 20 minutes a day three times a week.

Some exercise is better than no exercise; therefore, you can even break up the 20 minutes into 5 or 10-minute segments. Once your body starts to adjust, you can slowly increase your fitness output. As you grow stronger, your fitness routine will become too easy.

To continue getting the same benefits from exercise, you should increase the frequency and duration of your workouts. Start by adding an extra day to your weekly workout plan. You can also challenge yourself by gradually increasing the length of your workout sessions.

If you walk for 20 minutes a day, try increasing the amount to 25 or 30 minutes. Another way to challenge your body is to increase the intensity level of each workout. If you walk briskly four times a week, try switching two of the walks to a light jog. Gradually increasing your aerobic output is the best way to avoid injury. You can even increase your physical fitness by lifting weights. As you get stronger, you can lift heavier amounts.

Challenging yourself through exercise can help you live a long and healthy life. Make sure to change your workout routine occasionally so that you do not waste your time. As your fitness level increases, you will need to work harder to achieve results. Only make gradual changes so that you can avoid stress fractures and other injuries. You can even workout by participating in activities such as swimming, dancing, biking or hiking.
